Advertising Policy
Effective September 19, 2026. Version 2026-09-19.
TownLoop loops play in shops, restaurants, waiting rooms and lobbies, in front of everyone who walks in, children included. Every ad has to be fit for that room. A person reviews every ad before it plays. This policy is part of our Terms of Service.
1. Format
- Pictures: JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 12 MB. Best at 1920 × 1080 (16:9).
- Videos: MP4 with H.264 video, up to 30 seconds (up to 15 seconds for a town-wide slot), 1920 × 1080 at most, up to 40 MB. Videos play without sound, so the message has to work silently.
- Legible: readable from across a room. Few words, large type, strong contrast.
- No flashing: nothing that flashes more than three times in a second, and no strobing or rapidly alternating high-contrast patterns. Such content can trigger seizures.
- No fake interface: nothing that imitates an error message, a system alert, an emergency broadcast, or TownLoop's own slides.
- QR codes and web addresses must lead to a destination you control that matches the ad and follows this policy.
2. Honest and identifiable
- The ad must make clear who it is from, and it must be for the verified business or organization on your account.
- Claims must be truthful and not misleading, and you must be able to back them up. Prices, discounts and "free" offers must state the conditions that matter. "Sale" prices must be real reductions.
- Testimonials and endorsements must be genuine and reflect honest opinions.
- Comparisons with competitors must be accurate and fair. No disparagement.
- Contests, sweepstakes and giveaways must be lawful and must show or link to their rules, including who may enter, the end date, and that no purchase is necessary where the law requires it.
3. Suitable for everyone in the room
No nudity or sexual content, graphic violence or gore, profanity or slurs, content that demeans people for who they are, or anything frightening or shocking. No content aimed at making children want age-restricted products.
4. Restricted categories
Allowed only if the conditions are met, and always at the reviewer's discretion:
- Alcohol. Restaurants, pubs, breweries, wineries, distilleries and licensed retailers may advertise, in line with Missouri and federal law. No appeal to minors, no encouragement of excessive or rapid drinking, no drinking and driving, no claims that alcohol improves health or performance.
- Raffles, bingo and similar games. Only those run by organizations licensed or otherwise permitted to hold them under Missouri law. The state lottery's own retailer materials are fine.
- Health, wellness and supplements. No claims to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent a disease unless the product is approved for that use. No before-and-after images that misrepresent typical results. Licensed providers may advertise their practice.
- Financial services, housing, credit and jobs. Must include legally required disclosures and must not state or imply a preference or limitation based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, familial status, age, or any other protected characteristic.
- Firearms retailers and ranges. May advertise the business, classes and events. No ads offering specific firearms, ammunition or accessories for sale.
- Events serving alcohol or restricted to adults. Must say so.
5. Not accepted
- Anything illegal under federal, Missouri or local law, or that promotes illegal activity.
- Tobacco, nicotine, e-cigarettes and vaping products.
- Cannabis, CBD products making health claims, and drug paraphernalia.
- Weapons sales, explosives and fireworks sales to the public where a license is required and not shown.
- Casinos, sports betting and online gambling.
- Adult entertainment, escort services and sexually oriented businesses.
- Payday and title loans, bail bonds, multi-level marketing recruitment, get-rich-quick schemes, and "miracle" products.
- Counterfeit goods, and anything that infringes copyright, trademark, publicity or privacy rights. Do not use a person's image, a logo, a photo, or music you do not have the rights to.
- Political advertising: ads for or against a candidate, party, ballot measure or piece of legislation are not accepted at this time. Announcements of elections, polling places and public meetings from the responsible public body are welcome.
- Attacks on a named person or a local business, and personal disputes.
- Collection of personal information without a clear purpose and a privacy notice at the destination.
6. Review and removal
Most ads are reviewed within one business day. If we decline an ad we tell you why, and you can change it and submit it again. Changing an approved ad sends it back to review. We can decline or remove any ad at our discretion, including for reasons of taste, community fit, or too many similar ads in one loop. Our approval is not legal advice and does not mean an ad complies with the law: that responsibility is yours. Refunds for removed paid ads are covered in the Terms of Service, section 6.
7. Community announcements
Public notices, school and church events, fundraisers and civic announcements may be added to a town's loop by its curator free of charge, at the curator's discretion. Write to us.
8. Reporting an ad
If you see an ad on a TownLoop screen that you think breaks this policy, tell us where and when you saw it at hello@townloop.tv. We look at every report.
